If you play on PC, the news is not great. GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar has not announced a PC version or a PC date.
From PixelAlex: I play on both PC and PS5, so I understand the choice many readers face: buy on console at launch or wait for the PC version. I’ll update this article as soon as Rockstar confirms anything about PC.
That does not mean it will never come. Rockstar has released every recent big game on PC. It just takes time.
This guide looks at what is confirmed, what Rockstar’s past releases suggest, and what PC players can sensibly do while they wait.
Has Rockstar confirmed GTA 6 for PC?
No. As of today, Rockstar has only confirmed the console versions. Anything you read about an exact PC date is a rumour until Rockstar announces it.
The same goes for leaked “system requirements”. Rockstar has not published any PC specifications, so any list you see online is a guess, however official it looks.
What Rockstar’s history tells us
Rockstar usually launches on consoles first and brings the PC version later:

If GTA 6 follows the same pattern, a PC version could arrive roughly one to two years after the console launch, so sometime between late 2027 and 2028. This is our estimate based on history, not an announcement.
Look at the gaps. The wait was shortest for GTA 4 and longest for GTA 5. Red Dead Redemption 2 sat in the middle. There is no fixed rule, which is why nobody outside Rockstar can name a month with confidence.
What happened when earlier games reached PC
The PC versions were not simple copies. GTA 5 on PC arrived with more graphics options and higher frame rates than the console original.
Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PC on 5 November 2019, first through the Rockstar Games Launcher. The Steam version followed in December. So even on PC, not every store got the game on the same day.
Rockstar also keeps improving older games on PC. In March 2025, it released GTA 5 Enhanced for PC as a free upgrade for owners. It added features such as ray tracing, which console players had already seen on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The lesson: PC players usually wait longer, but they often end up with a very complete version.
Why does Rockstar release on PC later?
Rockstar has not explained it in detail, but the usual reasons in the industry are:
- PCs come in thousands of hardware combinations, so testing takes longer
- Adding PC features such as more graphics options, ultrawide support and higher frame rates
- Focusing the team on one launch at a time
- Letting the console versions sell well at full price first
Piracy and cheating also play a part. An online mode on PC needs strong protection against cheats, and that takes extra work.
Should you buy a console for GTA 6?
That depends on how long you can wait.
- You want to play on day one: a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S is the only option. The Xbox Series S is the cheapest way in.
- You can wait a year or more: keep your PC, and you will probably get the best-looking version later, plus mods.
- You have a weak PC anyway: a console may be cheaper than upgrading your PC to run a brand-new Rockstar game well.

Quick check: Before you decide, compare the full cost of each option. A console may also need a paid subscription for online play and extra storage, while a PC may need a new graphics card or SSD once requirements are known.
Will a gaming laptop be able to run it?

Should you upgrade your PC now?
Probably not just for GTA 6. Buying parts today for a game that may arrive a year or two later is risky:
- Prices change. Graphics cards and SSDs often get cheaper, or newer models replace them.
- Requirements are unknown. You might buy the wrong part, or spend more than you need to.
- You lose a year of value. Hardware bought now is older by the time the game arrives.

Beware of fake “GTA 6 PC” downloads
Whenever a big game skips PC, fake downloads appear. They promise an early PC version, a “beta” or a “crack”. These files are almost always malware designed to steal passwords or gaming accounts.
- Rockstar will announce any PC version through its own channels first.
- Real PC versions will be sold through official stores, not random file-sharing sites or video descriptions.
- If you already downloaded something suspicious, run a full malware scan and change your important passwords.

How to stay spoiler-free while you wait
PC players face a long period where everyone else knows the story. A few habits help:
- Mute words such as “GTA 6 ending” on social media
- Avoid comment sections under GTA videos
- Turn off notifications from gaming news apps during launch week
