Grand Theft Auto VI is finally close. After two delays, Rockstar Games has set the launch for 19 November 2026. Maybe you are planning time off, saving up or choosing a console. This page collects everything in one place. It also clearly separates what Rockstar has confirmed from what has only been reported.

GTA 6 release date
GTA 6 releases on Thursday, 19 November 2026.
It has been a long road. The first trailer, released in December 2023, promised a 2025 launch. Rockstar later moved the game to 26 May 2026, and then to 19 November 2026. When it announced the first delay, Rockstar said it needed the extra time “to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

With less than a month to go and the launch trailer already out, the date looks firm. Even so, treat any “new delay” headline with care until Rockstar confirms it.
What time will GTA 6 unlock?
Rockstar has not confirmed the unlock time yet. Some games unlock at midnight in each time zone. Others go live at the same moment worldwide. Until Rockstar says which approach it will use, plan for the evening of 18 November or the morning of 19 November, and check the store page that week.
Which platforms is GTA 6 on?
At launch, GTA 6 is coming to:
- PlayStation 5 (including PS5 Pro)
- Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S

Which console should you choose?
Rockstar has not published a breakdown of resolution or frame rate for each console. Until it does, choose based on what matters to you:
- You already own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S: keep it. Every current console runs the game.
- You are buying a console just for GTA 6: the Xbox Series S is the cheapest way in. Remember that it has no disc drive. The original model also has only 512 GB of storage, so big games fill it fast. A 1 TB model is also available.
- You want the best possible picture: wait for official comparisons or reviews before paying extra for a premium console.
- Your friends all play on one system: pick that one. Online play is more fun when your group is on the same platform.
How much does GTA 6 cost?
The Standard Edition costs $79.99 in the US, and the Ultimate Edition with extra content costs $99.99. Prices in euros and pounds depend on your local store, so check the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store for your country before you buy.
That is more than the usual $69.99 for big releases. Whether it is worth it depends on how much you play. GTA games are famous for keeping people busy for hundreds of hours.

Our advice: unless the extra content clearly matters to you, the Standard Edition is enough. You can usually add extras later, but you cannot get money back for things you never use.
Digital or disc?
- Digital lets you pre-load and start playing the moment the game unlocks. It is the only option on consoles without a disc drive.
- Disc can be resold or lent to a friend later, and shops sometimes offer small discounts. However, a large day-one update may still be needed before you can play.
If you want to be playing within minutes of launch, digital is the safer choice. It’s what I’m doing myself: I’m buying the digital version on PS5 on day one, so the game is already on my console when it unlocks.
Pre-orders and pre-load
- Pre-orders: opened on 25 June 2026 on the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store.
- Pre-load: Pre-loading for digital copies starts on 12 November 2026, one week before launch, according to Rockstar’s support information as reported by several major outlets. Check your console’s store page that week to confirm.
If you pre-order digitally, make sure you have enough free storage. Reports put the download at around 210 GB (not yet confirmed by Rockstar), so clear at least 250 GB to be safe.
How to pre-order safely
- Open the store on your console, or the official PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store app, rather than following links from messages or social media.
- Check that the publisher listed is Rockstar Games before you pay.
- Avoid cheap “GTA 6 keys” from unknown websites. Many are scams, and a key for the wrong region may not work at all.

Where is GTA 6 set?
GTA 6 takes place in the fictional state of Leonida, Rockstar’s take on Florida, including a modern Vice City. Rockstar has released three official trailers, most recently the launch trailer on 15 October 2026. They introduced the two main characters, Lucia and Jason, a criminal couple. They also showed swamps, beaches, highways and a very busy city obsessed with social media.
Rockstar’s official premise is short. A job that should have been easy goes wrong, and the couple are dragged into a conspiracy that spans the whole state.

Tip: If you want to take time off for launch, plan it around the confirmed date of 19 November 2026. Pre-loading is reported to start on 12 November, but the unlock time is not confirmed yet, so check the store page during launch week before you finalise your plans.

How to spot fake GTA 6 news
Launch season brings a flood of rumours. A few habits help you separate real news from noise:
- Check the source. Real announcements come from Rockstar’s own website and social channels, or from the official console stores.
- Be wary of “insiders”. Anonymous posts about secret release times or hidden editions are often wrong.
- Ignore “free early access” offers. Rockstar does not hand out early copies through random giveaways, and these offers are a common way to steal accounts.
If a claim sounds too exciting to be true, wait a day. Genuine news is quickly repeated by trustworthy outlets.
